General Administrator

We are looking for a proactive General Administrator to provide day-to-day administrative support across the business, helping every department run smoothly while building a strong foundation for a long-term career in a professional engineering environment.

Role overview

The General Administrator role sits at the centre of the office, delivering quality administration and group support to operations, management, finance, quality and the workshop. This is an entry-level role, ideal for someone early in their career who brings a positive attitude, strong attention to detail and a genuine eagerness to learn, take on new responsibilities and grow with the business.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide general administrative support to all departments, ensuring documents, records and day-to-day tasks are handled accurately and on time.
  • Act as a first point of contact on reception, answering and directing customer calls and welcoming visitors in a professional manner.
  • Attend meetings to take minutes, distribute notes and keep action logs up to date so teams are clear on next steps and priorities.
  • Prepare final versions of reports, PowerPoint presentations and other documents from drafts, ensuring they are well-presented and error-free.
  • Monitor and order stationery, PPE, clothing and other consumables, and support with ordering parts and materials for jobs as required.
  • Help with travel, accommodation and logistics bookings so engineering and operations staff have everything in place before attending sites.
  • Scan, file and maintain accurate records, and with training, support the operations team with job packs, RAMS and distributing engineer appointments.

Skills and qualities

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask, prioritise work and stay calm in a busy environment.
  • Clear, confident communication skills, a professional phone manner and the ability to build good working relationships across the business.
  • Good literacy, numeracy and IT skills, including competent use of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Supportive, positive and **proactive** approach, with the confidence to take the lead on tasks once trained and to look for ways to help colleagues.
  • Genuine enthusiasm to learn, develop new skills and gradually take on more responsibility as knowledge and experience grow.

Hours, salary and development

Full-time position, Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm.

Salary in the region of £25,000 – £28,000, depending on experience.

Structured onboarding and ongoing training, with the opportunity to get involved in a wide variety of activities, gain exposure to different departments and progress within Boiler & Valve Engineering over time.

This role will suit someone who is motivated, keen to get stuck in, and looking to build a rewarding administrative career within a specialist engineering business.
